Wacky Wednesday

It is Wacky Wednesday, and Charles is walking from room to room looking up and saying "uh oh!" That's because those wacky shoes from the book have appeared on our walls and ceiling! He doesn't quite know what to make of it. Just "uh oh!"

Talk, talk, talk

Charles turned 18 months on Monday, and it is like he flipped a switch on his talking. Sunday, we were heading out the door to run errands, and Daddy called out "let's go!" Charles picked that up, and there was a continuous "Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!" until we finally left. Tonight, to calm the running boys, Daddy turned on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. When Mickey called out "Oh Toodles!" Charles piped right up with his version of "Oh Toodles!" While I am writing this, I just heard Daddy's car horn beep twice. Charles has his keys in the other room and is apparently locking the car doors. The boy is non-stop.

Hugs!

Charles has learned to hug and he really likes it! We had the children give night time hugs and good-bye hugs in South Carolina. Those last good-bye hugs clicked with Charles, and he went around and around the room giving big bear hugs to everyone--especially Granddaddy. Yesterday afternoon we practiced hugs again. This time he added the word "hug" as he hear hugged his mommy and his brother.

Charles fights back

William can sometimes be rough with Charles or picks on him too much. We have told him to be careful because one day Charles would fight back. Today was that day. The boys had been playing well together all afternoon, but after we had come downstairs, William jumped off the sofa and pushed Charles backwards. Charles started crying, so I told William to say he was sorry and give Charles a hug. William gave Charles a big bear hug, and Charles bit William's shoulder but good. After a hand pop, a scolding, and time out while I cleaned the scraped shoulder and a applied a band-aid, I brought both boys back together and talked to them, reminding them how much they love each other. William immediately apologized to Charles, and Charles leaned his head towards William for a nice hug to say he was sorry. William didn't see he was sorry until I told him to look at Charles' eyes. They were so intense looking at William, it was easy to see he was sorry.

Cowboy Charles

On Sunday, William and Charles got to help Granddaddy move hay bales to feed the horses. We rode in the SUV, and they had fun bouncing over the bumpy pastures. Then we got out to see how the mechanism worked to pick up the hay bales. On our third trip. William and Charles got to sit on top of a hay bale. They thought that was great. And when William slid off by himself onto the ground, he yelled out, "That was awesome!" We then were put in charge of shooing horses away from an open gate. Charles enjoyed petting one of the horses, but as they proved to be ornery, we had to physically push two if them away from the gate as they tried to get through. They had so much fun!

Tumble Trip

We went to South Carolina to visit the family, but along with all the fun Charles had, he got quite a few bumps, too. He loved playing with Emma Kate and Aly--they were his size. He really enjoyed Aly's play kitchen. But he also tried to keep up with the bigger boys because if course he is just as big as they are. His big fall was a tumble part way down Aunt Mary's wooden front stairs. He ended up with a scrape on his scalp and a bit if a headache that had him holding his head. Aunt Mary was worried and called her pediatrician, but after keeping an eye on him (and making sure his eyes worked correctly) we figured he was fine.
