Literary or, uh, monster cat

Charles decided Lang Se needed to wear Mike Wazowski 3D glasses this morning. Lang Se is such a good sport.

Where is Charles?

I couldn't find Charles. William and I had been reading upstairs, and it was time to get ready for the first day of soccer. The house was quiet, so I figured Charles had fallen asleep somewhere. I checked the den floor where I have often found him. I checked the living room where he had been playing. He was not in his room when I went to get his socks. I was about to search William's room when I spied two little feet sticking out from under the dining room table.

Charles's OK fraternity picture at Monsters University

Charles loves his monsters!  The Imaginext Monsters University characters are on sale now, so we completed the collection.  Charles is in Heaven and carries his monsters around all day.  It was only fitting he have his photo with them.  He just stared and stared at the final product! Go Oozma Kappa!

Oh, Charles!

What a day Charles had yesterday! Let's start with the shower. Just as I was about to get in the shower yesterday morning, Charles announced, "I want in! I want shower!" After making sure he really wanted in, I stripped him down and brought him in the shower. I washed his hair, and he was fine with the water pouring on his head. When he got slippery, I stood him in the shower, and he didn't complain. He let me scrub the rest if his body, and then stayed in until I was done. William helped dry him off.

While William was at school, I tried to get laundry folded, but first I tried to get Charles to go tee tee on the potty. I got his diaper off, but he ran away. When he sat down on the potty for a bit, I rewarded him with four mini marshmallows. He left the bathroom, but a minute later he came back in, sat, and popped up again, begging for more marshmallows. I gave him one for sitting down again, but told him he needed to tee tee. He ran out, came back in, hopped on and off the potty and asked for another marshmallow. He was playing the system! When I wouldn't give him anymore, he had a fit. I couldn't get laundry folded, and he was crying and pulling in me. Finally I picked him up and swayed while holding him, hoping he would go to sleep. He calmed down, but no nap. He finally let me put him down and soon left the room. When he came back, he was tugging me to the bathroom. This time he actually went! Woo-hoo! He got his four marshmallows and didn't ask again.

Even though he had gone to the potty, Charles still did not want his diaper on, so he was running around half naked. After a little while, had grabbed for me again and, pointing to his penis, said, "Blue! Blue!" He thought his penis was blue and was a little worried. I think he saw the blood giving it a hue. He let me put his diaper on him after that.

When William got home from school, we drove to a Target to pick up chairs I had ordered. We ate lunch at Chick-fil-A before shopping. William saved our table while Charles went with me to order. He saw a bag of chocolate chip cookies and, being a Cookie Monster, decided he wanted some right then. When we got to the table without them, he plopped face and belly on the floor and started a tantrum. I wrangled him into a high chair, and he continued to cry. William covered his ears partly from embarrassment. Charles eventually asked me to hold him, so I did, trying to calm him. One of the workers came up to check that he wasn't hurt. No--two year old having a tantrum over cookies. He finally settled and ate his lunch in peace before both boys happily played in the play space.

Wacky Wednesday

Today is Wacky Wednesday of Read Across America week. William rose early to dress in his inside-out and backwards minion shirt and inside out gloves. We added orange shorts over his jeans, and he selected one snow boot and one rain boot to complete the outfit. Before running out the door for school, he put on his yellow swimming goggles.

Charles dressed in a backward flannel shirt with Jake and the Neverland Puestes shorts over his jeans. He also put on green monster socks as mittens, to which he roared with laughter at his own joke.

At some point in the morning, shoes appeared on our walls and ceilings. For lunch, we had fish shaped fish bites, bunny shaped pretzels, and blue milk for William and purple milk for Charles.

Dr. Seuss lesson

Today Charles and I did a Dr. Seuss lesson. First, he just colored the Cat in the Hat and Horton.
Then we colored Green Eggs and Ham together and talked about colors.
Next, we went to the computer to identify colors and count using pages from There's a Wocket in My Pocket. Charles did an excellent job identifying his colors and then counting. After we worked on the computer, we printed out the pictures so Charles could color them. He wanted help, but he selected the crayons for their correct colors.
Finally, Charles colored the Cat in the Hat clean up. I told him the Cat's hat was red, so he selected the red crayon and colored the hat red. Woo-hoo! I asked him to color the fish orange, and he did! Then he colored the flowers and the cake purple--his choice.
Knowing he is home and not in preschool, I was not sure how much he would know, but I glanced at William's two year preschool book, and I think Charles is doing well with his colors and numbers. Yay!
